Kaduna peace c’ttee fails to submit report

The 70- man Kaduna State Peace and Reconciliation Committee could not submit its report yesterday as scheduled, because many of its members did not sign it, Weekly Trust has gathered.

The committee which was constituted by the late Governor of the state, Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa as part of recommendation of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry constituted to look into the post-election riot in the state was supposed to submit their report to the state governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero yesterday.

Around 11.30am, members of the committee numbering about 50 converged at the chamber of the Kaduna State Government House to submit the report.
Governor  Yero   held a closed door meeting with the co-chairmen of the committee, at the end of the which the governor and the co-chairmen came into the chamber.
Shortly after entering the chamber,  Governor Yero asked journalists to excuse them. An hour later, the members of the committee started coming out of the chamber one-after-the other.
It was at this moment that newsmen started suspecting that all was not well. Weekly Trust gathered that members of committee couldn’t submit the report because only few members had signed the report.
Among the member of the committee who first left the chamber was General Zamani Lekwot. When contacted, he declined comment, saying “I will not talk now go and meet the co-chairmen.
The co-chairman of the committee, Alhaji Abbas Dabo Sambo who also left the chamber said they couldn’t submit the report because many members of the committee were yet to sign it.
“We don’t have any disagreement. It is just that some people were yet to sign the report. I have signed it and all members who are here had done same,” he said.
Co-Chairman of the committee, AVM Ishaya Shekari (rtd) also corroborated the statement of Alhaj Sambo, saying  ``we want to make sure that those who did not get chance to travel here today to sign the report are given the chance to do so, because we wanted to sign all the copies and there are many copies.’’
