FCT polls: TMG urges residents to shun apathy

The Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) has urged Abuja residents   to come out to cast their votes in today’s council polls and shun apathy.

National Coordinator of the group, Zainab Abdullahi-Mohammed, said yesterday in Abuja in a statement that the TMG known as the Centre for Civic Education will observe the elections.
“While preparing to respond to our clarion call on March 16, 2013, we implore all good citizens and residents of the FCT in the up-coming elections to respect the sovereignty of Nigerians to establish their own government to elect men and women of proven integrity who will take charge of the affairs of the six area councils in the FCT.
“The list of nominated candidates for the area council election was released February 13, 2013, while the names of the party agents were submitted to the electoral officer from March 5th to March 8th 2013. The Residential Electoral Commissioner has confirmed the commitment of INEC to ensure a free and fair election, asserting that the presence of both domestic and international observers will revitalize the confidence of representatives of political parties at each polling centre where electoral officials deviate from standard regulations.
