Germany coach Marco Pezzaiuoli on Thursday in Abuja said his team was ready to take on Nigeria in Saturday’s opening match of the FIFA under-17 football tournament.The coach told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the team’s evening training at the Abuja National Stadium’s main bowl that his boys have been having good time so far.
``We are very happy to be here, and we are in a good hotel and have been meeting very friendly people who have been helping us all the way,’’ he said.Pezzaiuoli expressed delight at the state of facilities at the stadium, meant for
Group A matches in the first round where his team would slug it out with Nigeria, Argentina and Honduras.``Nigeria has a beautiful stadium and it is our joy that we will be playing there
in the first game against Nigeria on Saturday,’’ he said.
The coach, who said the weather had also been ‘’friendly’’, since the team’s arrival in Abuja, however, said he was not comfortable with the training pitches provided for them.“The weather has been good. We have no cause to worry about it. Our only problem is the training pitches. They are not what we expected. They are not just what they should be,’’ he said.
Pezzaiuoli, however, said his team, which is the 2008/2009 UEFA Under-17 European Champion, would not be distracted from putting in its best in the competition.``We can’t be complaining about it now. This is a World Cup, and we can’t allow this to distract us. We need to train and prepare with all our minds,’’ he said.
The coach, who said his team was fully ready, however, warned his boys that they would encounter a tough game against the Nigerian side.
