The Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis on Friday recorded two more upsets in the second leg holding at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the men and women’s categories recorded one upset each in the semi final stages of the competition.Enrique Lopez-Perez of Spain, seeded five in the tournament, defeated the number three seed, Kento Takeuchi of Japan, 6-3, 6-3.
The victorious player set a new record of sorts, being the first player to defeat two top-seeded players in two games, in a row.
Lopez-Perez had on Oct. 25 defeated Camil Capkovic of Slovakia, who was the No. 1 seed at the tournament.
The Spaniard did not let down his guards as he continued to fight hard to see that he achieved his aim of going after the trophy.
The game lasted two hours as spectators savoured every moment of the match.
An excited Lopez-Perez in an interview with NAN after the game said he was ready for the game as he was focused and determined to win.
``At this stage, I know it is not easy to play to win, but I told myself that I would make it.
``I played with all my might and kept myself in check for mistakes that I normally make. My mind set was positive when I won the first set,’’ he added..
Disappointed at his game, Takeuchi, in reaction to his loss said he did not play his best and lost
