Wolves seek big win in Confederation Cup

Warri Wolves have vowed to overrun South Africa’s Black Leopards Sunday at home so as to progress in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup tie.
Wolves coach Maurice Cooreman said in an interview that he has been impressed with his team’s form in the domestic league.“We are in a great form, after playing a draw against ABS FC in Ilorin on Wednesday we are back in Warri and we would train twice before the game against Leopards.”
Team spirit sagged after they played a barren draw with Heartland in Warri before the ABS game.
Club spokesman Timi Ebikagboro admitted team morale was low end after the Heartland stalemate.
Cooreman, who guided Kaduna United to the group phase of the competition last year, stated that his team will approach the game with the aim of making the return leg a mere formality.
“We are playing at home and we need to score goals so that the return leg would be easy for us. I think we would come out with a good result on Sunday,” he said.
“I have watched their games on television and I don’t think they are a team who can withstand us in Warri. You know our outing at home in the continent this year has been wonderful and we hope to capitalise on it.”
Warri Wolves have won all four previous continental club competition matches at home, conceding just one goal in the process meaning the Warri City Stadium is a fortress for this team.
They sent Sierra Leone’s FC Kallon out of the competition in the previous round. After a 0-0 draw in Freetown, they won 2-0 at home.
Two years ago, they also reached the second round of this same competition where they were knocked out by CAPS United of Zimbabwe 3-2 on aggregate.
In 2002, they also featured in the now defunct CAF Cup as NPA FC and they were eliminated in the first round.
