“We at the National Sports Commission are no less worried, especially at this critical period when Nigerians are united in ensuring national transformation for improved livelihood in the nation.
“I wish to use this medium to join other well-meaning Nigerians who have called for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Michael Obi who has been held hostage by his abductors. I therefore strongly appeal to those involved to see wisdom and allow good reason prevail as we urge them to hand over the gentleman unhurt to his loved ones” he stated.

Minister of Sports Yusuf Suleiman yesterday joined other concerned Nigerians in appealing to abductors of the father of Super Eagles and Chelsea of England midfielder John Obi Michael to release the man unhurt. In a statement issued in Abuja, Suleiman who condemned the action of the abductors as inglorious and ungodly, noted that the incident is capable of causing apprehension in the land.“Undoubtedly, this singular act by the abductors is capable of generating much apprehension as it is already causing great despair and anguish to the Obi family.
