Emir of Kano Open: PGA Nigeria Tour assures on security

The Professional Golf Association Nigeria Tour has assured participants in the five-day Emir of Kano Open Championship in Kano of their safety.
Olusola Lawson, the Tour Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of PGANT, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the usual level of security would be provided.“This tour is a celebration of a Nigerian icon in the person of the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ado Bayero, who is revered by all.”
“The Emir’s iconic status in the society should be enough deterrent for those seeking to foment trouble.
“This is not to say that the usual level of security will not be provided for an event of such magnitude which will also involve the state government,’’ Lawson said.
NAN reports that the championship is scheduled to hold between July 25 and July 30.
“Being one of the co-sponsors of the event, the state government would ensure that no untoward incident is countenanced at the tournament,” he said.
Earlier at a media briefing at the Ikeja Golf Club, Lawson unveiled Dangote Cement as the main sponsor of the golf open with Aso Savings and Loans, Kitari Consult, Kabo Air, 7Up and the Kano State Government as co-sponsors.
He said that the Emir of Kano Open would follow the pattern of a Pro-Am format where professionals would play a 72 holes tournament from July 25 to July 28.
According to him, club amateurs will square off in a 36 holes medal competition from July 29 to July 30.
Lawson said that a total of N5 million would be at stake as prize money and about 80 tour professionals, including foreigners, would jostle for honours at the tournament.
The Head of Brands and Adverts, Dangote Group, Tunde Oladipo, told NAN that their involvement in the 3rd Emir of Kano Open was in fulfilment of their corporate social responsibility.
“For us as an organisation we always involve ourselves with laudable ventures that are beneficial to the society.
“The Emir of Kano Open is one of such laudable ventures, and it is our own way of giving back to the society,” he said.
