Eagles star Taye Taiwo has hit a jackpot at Italian champions AC Milan, where he will be paid four times what he got at Olympique Marseille.
MTNFootball.com has scooped that Taiwo has landed 12 million euros in a three-year contract and this is exclusive of bonuses and other benefits.He will also receive a signing-on fee of 1.5 million euros after he left Marseille a free player this summer.
Milan will also throw in a Maserati, the world famous stylish luxury sports car which could go for as much as $120,000, for the international left fullback.
His new pay works out at about 335,000 euros a month as against 80,000 he received at OM, and what should further excite Taiwo is that he will pay less tax in Italy than what he paid in France.
The tax in Italy is 15%, while in France it’s 33%.
Retired Nigerian player, Tobin Cotterell, in concert with his French partner, Olivier Syvan, brokered arguably the biggest deal involving a Nigerian player since John Mikel Obi’s switch to Chelsea in 2005.
“Taiwo signed a pre-contract with Milan in February, when we first met with (Adriano) Galliani,” Cotterell informed MTNFootball.com.
“The player’s personal terms were worked out and agreed upon then.
“We believe he will be a big hit in Italy because he will get all the support he needs to succeed at the San Siro.
“At 26, he is at the height of his powers and to now play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, is most certainly a dream come true for Taye and he will make the most of it.”
Cotterell was also involved in another big-money transfer of former Nigeria international defender Joseph Enakarhire from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon to Russian club Dynamo Moscow six years ago.
He will now warn players, particularly Nigerians, against agreeing for an agent to take a percentage of their salaries.
“We had a situation where an agent wanted 10% of Taiwo’s salary. That should never be the case because this agent would normally get a commission from the club as well as a cut of the transfer fee,” the France-based agent disclosed to MTNFootball.com.
“Players do all the hard work and they should therefore not share their hard-earned salaries with an agent.”
