NFF election: It’s fight to finish, Nnaji declares

Former member of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), Barrister Ray Nnaji yesterday said he would pursue the case instituted in court challenging the legality of the current board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) up to the Supreme Court if the judgement at the lower and Appeal Court is in favour of the respondents.
The former President of the defunct Football Referees Association of Nigeria (FRAN) told Trustsports in a telephone interview that he was full of confidence that in the end he would emerge victorious to correct the wrongs perpetrated by the former board.
According to him, it was wrong for the former board led by ousted former President Sani Lulu Abdullahi to constitute electoral committee at a time they were supposed to have served out their tenure of office.
In addition to that Nnaji, who was commissioner of sports in Enugu State in the last administration, argued that the NFF erred in conducting election into its board when a Nigerian court of law ruled against it, stressing that the laws of the land are paramount to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the world football governing body (FIFA).
“I don’t give up easily in any fight and I am going to fight this case up to the Supreme Court if the judgement here is not in my favour, but I want to say that I have faith in the judiciary system and I am sure of wining at the end.
“I also want to know if the CAF and FIFA statutes are superior to the laws of Nigeria, because a court in Nigeria gave an injunction stopping to election but the NFF board went ahead and conducted elections into the board and those who are beneficiaries of that election are parading themselves as leaders in this country”, Nnaji stated.
To this end, he therefore declared that the present board of the NFF is living on borrowed time and will soon be shown the way out.
Similarly, former Gombe State Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Shaibu Gara Gombe yesterday he will soon go to court to seek legal explanation on the earlier decision of a Lagos High Court nullifying the election of the NFF board.
Gombe, in a telephone interview with Trustsports, stated that Nigerians are yet to understand while the court remained silent on the issue after the NFF and National Association of Nigerian Footballers (NANF) reached accord to withdraw the case from court.
In his argument, Gara noted that the agreement between the two parties does not translate to legitimizing the election which was conducted against the ruling of a law court.
