Eguavoen expels Chigozie from Eagles’ camp

SuperSport.com was informed by the spokesman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Robinson Okosun, of the development in the Eagles’ camp.
He explained that Agbim was not allowed to stay in camp after he arrived on Tuesday to the team’s camp in Abuja – two days behind schedule.
“Warri Wolves’ goalkeeper, Chigozie Agbim, will play no part in the camping of the home-based players of the Super Eagles because he arrived late. We decided to send him back for that,” he said.
Eguavoen’s assistant, Ben Iroha, also explained the rationale behind Agbim’s expulsion from the camp saying the coaching crew will not condone acts of indiscipline like the Warri Wolves’ goalkeeper exhibited.
“Other players arrived on the day when the camp opened. But we waited for him and didn’t see him until a day or two after the camp was thrown open. That’s not good for a player aspiring to become part of the national team. So we had to send him home.
“The only player that was given time was Ahmed Musa because he was part of the Flying Eagles team that played last weekend against Mauritius and the boy reported to camp when the two days off given him finished,” explained Iroha to SuperSport.com.
Agbim has since been replaced by his Kaduna United counterpart, Chinedu Agwu, who joined up with the team at the NICON Luxury Hotel camp early this week.
In an interview with Trustsports, Coach Eguavoen expressed happiness with the responses he and his assistants have been getting from the home-based Eagles, saying they are expecting the foreign legion to join them in the camp so that full training can begin.
“I am happy with the attitudes of the foreign-based towards the home-based players anytime they are together. Since I have been handling the team, they foreign professionals have always made their home-based counterparts feel at home. And that has helped them their development in the team.
On the opposition his team is going to meet in Conakry, the ex-international described the Guineans as very tough and resilient oppositions, saying his players have to be at their best in order to pick three points in Conakry.
Eguavoen, who made this statement in an interview with Trustsports from his team’s Abuja National Stadium training pitch, promised not to underrate the West African team.
He maintained that the boys from Guinea will be at their best, knowing full well that they are playing before their teaming fans.
“Guinea are always difficult opponents to play against, even during my own days in the Super Eagles. But, with the superlative forms of some of our players, we hope to give a good account of ourselves in Conakry,” Eguavoen pleged.
