Nigerian girl toast of American basketball

Two years ago, Nigerian Teenager, Sarah Imovbioh was spotted by one of the coaches invited from America to assist in the summer holiday camp organized by the Premier Basketball Foundation, Abuja for kids in the FCT.

Owing to her exceptional abilities, she was instantly offered scholarship by Coach Phil to study in the United States of America. She was assisted by the Abuja Basketball Foundation to travel out and today, she has become the toast of American basketball.

In a mail sent to the president of Nigerian Basketball Federation, Mallam Tijani Umar who is also the president of the Premier Basketball Foundation, Abuja and made available to Hoops Center, the coach who took Imovbioh to America, described her as TOTAL DOMINATION as he reiterated that the teen basketball player had a ‘great’ season this year.

According to the coach, with the enormous contribution of Imovbioh, her college club has convincingly won their conference, registration season and tournament championships. Interestingly, the coach said she was the Most Valuable Player in both Championships.

Although her team lost in the final four of the states which had all the top teams in Virginia in attendance, she clearly proved that she is a special player by scoring 53 points, 21 re-bounds in the last games. The coach said everyone in the States is still talking about the exceptional performance of the teenage girl from Nigeria.

His words:  “She had a GREAT season this year, TOTAL domination. We won our conference, reg season and tournament Championships, she was MVP of both... We advance to the Final Four of the States (with all the top teams in Virginia) we lost but Sarah let everyone know how good she has become, she scored 53pts 21rebs in that last games. Everyone in the state is STILL talking about it....”

Due to her excellence on court, reputable colleges in the States have fallen in love with her and have expressed keen interest in offering her the opportunity to study and play for them. “ Have some very good college offers on the table right now Uva, Uni of Miami, Arizona, UNC are just the start of the list... as you can see all are great academic and athletic schools so where ever she chooses it will be great for her and your program....”.

Coach Phil said Imovbioh is also doing well in her academics at St Annes Belfield where she is a student.

Beside basketball, she is said to have shown tremendous interest in soccer but the coach who said he is taking serious caution to protect her against unnecessary injuries does not want her to develop too much interest which would expose her to injuries.

“I’m not letting her play any other position, apart from goalkeeping, don’t want to risk injury...” he said.
