Eagles believed luck has no limit - Kaave

Former member of the board of Nigeria Football Association and Attorney-General of Benue State, Barrister Chive Kaave has said the Super Eagles players made the mistake of believing that there is no limit to luck and that was why they were bundled out of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
On Thursday in Luanda, the Black Stars of Ghana knocked the Super Eagles out of the Africa Cup of Nations to confirm their supremacy over the Nigerians having knocked them out of the same competition in Ghana in 2008 at the quarter final stage.
The Eagles who lost the opening match 1-3 to Egypt managed to get to the semi-final with unconvincing victories over the Squirrels of Benin, Mambas of Mozambique and Chipolopolo of Zambia which they defeated 5-4 on penalties at the quarter final stage.
When they qualified for the semi-finals, most Nigerians including the minister of sports and Chairman National Sports Commission, NSC, Engineer Sani Ndanusa said it was mother luck that gave victory to the Eagles over the Chipolopolo of Zambia.
Consequently, when they lost the semi-final clash to the Black Stars of Ghana many Nigerians did not express any surprise with the Benue State Commissioner of Justice, Kaave saying the luck which Eagles depended on to win the championship had deserted them.
He said “now the players and their coaches will realize the fact that there is limit to luck. The team over depended on luck as if it has no limit. It was by luck that they got to that stage in the championship. And when the luck shone brightly on them, they refused to do the right things. They believed it will always be there for them.
“I have never seen a team go into any competition with the belief that by climbing on the back of luck, it will win the competition ahead of other countries that are better prepared. Luck saw the Eagles defeat Benin, Mozambique and Zambia but against Ghana, luck abandoned them. I hope they will learn a lesson from that defeat”
Kaave maintained that against the Black Stars, the Eagles could not put their acts together as they played without guidance and purpose.
He said the young Ghanaian team which gave so much respect to the Eagles later discovered that there was nothing to be scared about the Nigerians and came out fully to play their free flowing football.
The former vice-chairman of NFA called for the team to be re-organized immediately if disaster is to be avoided at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“I suggest that the team should be re-organized without further delay. Something should be done about the technical crew and the playing staff. If we take the same players and coaches to South Africa to face countries like Argentina, Spain, Brazil and France, we would make a laughing stock of ourselves.
Kaave advised NFF and the National Sports Commission, NSC to do away with sentiments in re-organizing the senior national team.
