Globacom Premier League clubside, Zamfara United, on Thursday charged their league counterparts to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship for the development of the league.The team’s Media Officer, Immam Immam, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone that the other clubs should “know they can only win some and lose some.’’
He said that only improvement in reactions to defeats by club officials, players and fans could help the league to grow.``Our counterparts must learn to respect one another if we want the league we laboured to develop to this level to grow bigger and better.
``When Zamfara United lost 0-5 away to Warri Wolves FC in week one of the league on Sept. 20, nobody accused the match referee or the home team of any wrongful act.``That is the spirit we all should have,’’ Immam said.He decried the way some clubs react to losses when it was glaring that they could only win some and lose some.
``We should also appreciate that our opponents also want to win as they must have also put in as much as we did into preparing for a match,’’ Immam said.
He described as fair his team’s victory over Dolphin FC of Port Harcourt in their season 2009/2010 Globacom Premier League week four match at home in Gusau.
``There have been claims by Dolphins that they were robbed because they conceded two penalty kicks in the match which they lost 2-3.
``While it is not our duty to defend the referee, who handled the match, it is worth emphasising that the match was won by the side with more determination.
``It was also won by the side which made fewer costly mistakes,’’ he said.
