It’s exactly two weeks ago that the nation, in the heat of insurrection from the North Eastern corner of the country woke up to another gruesome reality of yet another militancy on the part of youths said to be of Eggon origin in Nasarawa State ambushing police men and other security officials on duty killing them in their tens.

A little over two weeks ago, hell was let lose in Baga town, Borno State where tens of innocent lives were reportedly massacred by the Nigerian troops allegedly in retaliation of an attack launched on the Joint Task Force that was in the area to tackle the menace of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Yesterday, May 10th 2013 marked the tenth year precisely when this column, Within the Nation  began to feature in this weekly. A week before then,  Garba Deen Muhammad, then editor, Weekly Trust invited me to his office in Kaduna and suggested that I should consider contributing on weekly basis articles for publication on different issues mainly revolving around politics, economics and the sociology of Nigeria.

Yesterday, May 10th 2013 marked the tenth year precisely when this column, Within the Nation  began to feature in this weekly. A week before then,  Garba Deen Muhammad, then editor, Weekly Trust invited me to his office in Kaduna and suggested that I should consider contributing on weekly basis articles for publication on different issues mainly revolving around politics, economics and the sociology of Nigeria.

I think one reason why we have problems in Nigeria today and like it was yesterday is that there seem to be a mix up on the relationship between politics and governance. People in positions of authority have since failed to understand the point of continuation and departure between politics and governance.
