But the young lovers in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s latest novel, Americanah, must overcome even more challenges than usual: military rule, immigration restrictions and, during their years apart, other relationships.

Musa Idris, an author  and   teacher, holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Mass Communication. He is both a Grade II and NCE (double major) teacher and teaches in many institutions of learning across various academic levels. This poem, composed by Isma’il Adamu, is in memory of the late General Murtala Ramat Mohammed (1938-1976) who was assassinated on February 13, 1976 in an abortive coup attempt. Adamu captures the unprecedented achievements recorded by the Murtala administration 37 years ago.
