Introduction

Let me begin by first thanking Jide Ojo for inviting me to review this collection of views and perspectives on this great country, Nigeria. I accept the challenge as a matter of opportunity to share in the joy of this young entrepreneur whom I got to know closely as a result of his deep commitment to work in International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES) during the countdown to the 2007 elections in Nigeria.

The ruling by a federal High Court in Lagos on Monday this week to the effect that the constitution recently amended by the National Assembly as concurred by State Houses of Assembly must be accented to by the President is to say the least another manifestation of the ugly side of justice in Nigeria.

With every passing day, the incapacity of President Goodluck Jonathan is becoming clearer. It is certain that the man cannot effectively lead the nation into the desired future. It is not about age, it is not about having a new air to breath. You can never have fresh air in an atmosphere of pollution and I believe very sincerely that is the stuff that Goodluck Jonathan is made of and at best, his intellectual reality places him as a better assistant rather than the real actor.

It was last weekend that a collection of about eleven state governors under the leadership of Gabriel Suswam, the Governor of Benue State assembled and organized a coup d’état by not only announcing the purported removal of Abubakar Bukola Saraki as the chairman of their cartel, the Governors Forum, but equally announced the appointment of Gbenga Daniel, undoubtedly the most embattled governor of the 36 state governors, as the new chairman.
